The Parish School of St Werburghs Spondon

EYFS

St.Werburgh’s Way: At St.Werburgh’s, our vision is for all of our children is to experience ‘Life in all its fullness’.

In EYFS we aim to provide the best possible start for our youngest children to enable them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the Early Years and a child’s experiences between birth and five have a major impact on their future life.

We believe that a broad and balanced curriculum, where all subjects are valued, enables our children to flourish in a variety of ways. We offer opportunities for children to build skills in all seven areas of learning and explore their curiosities in our continuous provision.

We share our school’s Christian ethos as we encourage children to embrace life at St.Werburgh’s in a positive way. Embracing opportunities and experiences, learning new skills and gaining knowledge about the wonderful world that they live in. Our aim is to provide an environment where each child feels happy, safe and secure and can build positive relationships with others.

Our classroom is spacious and welcoming and supports learning through the seven areas of learning. Children have the opportunities to learn both inside and outside and we are extremely lucky with our amount of outside space. We aim to promote fun and a love of learning and this is embedded through the three characteristics of Effective Learning. This includes playing and exploring, being active learners and providing the children with the opportunities to be creative and think critically.

We give high value to the outdoor environment and outdoor learning is given equal value to indoor learning as it highly influences children’s learning and development. The children engage in a weekly Forest School session led by our Forest School Leader. They explore, investigate, experience and encounter a wide range of learning in our school grounds, vegetable garden and in our school wood, Acorn Wood. The children think critically and ask questions about the world around them.

We work closely with our parents and build positive relationships to ensure that high quality learning is taking place. Together we provide the foundations that children need to make the most out of their unique abilities and talents.
