Dads and Daughters Reading and Sausage Cob Sessions! 7th/8th June
Thank you to all those who attended our highly successful open reading sessions for ‘Dads and Daughters’ across KS1 and KS2 this week. Dads were afforded the opportunity to engage with daughters as reading role models, offering words of advice, guidance and questioning support. Please continue to support your child with this important life skill.
Striker Boy Emotional Resilience Session
On Monday 9th April Year 5/6 visited Derby County and participated in their ‘Striker Boy’ campaign which provided workshops coupled with a stadium tour focussing on emotional resilience. The children were given some practical advice around emotional resilience and about how to control their behaviour. The sessions were aimed to:
- Help children understand that every single person goes through difficult points in their life
- Inspire children to understand that they have the potential to overcome and learn from every challenge they’ll face
- Explain that resilience is something which is learnt not something that we are born with
- Give practical advice on how to build emotional resilience
- Provide an age-appropriate explanation of mental illness
- Provide clear instruction on who they can speak to about their emotions
Treasure Island Comes to St Werburgh’s
On Thursday 12th April our school hall was transformed into a packed auditorium, where KS2 waited in anticipation for the classic production of ‘Treasure Island’. The children were captivated by the action-packed, fast paced and interactive performance from the professional theatre company.
Just before February half-term, we ran a series of maths information meetings for all key stages. This was to share the teaching of maths and the mastery approach to teaching maths across our school. Here we shared homework, resources, targets, maths equipment and how you can help support your child at home. If you would like the slides from those events please click here for the Foundation Counting Project and here for the Parent Maths Workshop.
Safer Internet Event at the Quad.
A group of children were lucky enough to be selected to attend a Safer Internet Day event held by Derby City Council at the Quad, Derby. The seminar was specifically designed and delivered to address internet and social media safety for children, young people and parents. The council commissioned Get Safe Online who are the UK’s leading source of unbiased, factual and easy-to-understand information on online safety to deliver the workshop to Derby’s Primary Schools.
Thank you once again to the Year 6 parents who braved the cold weather to attend the SATs Information and Transition meeting held on Tuesday 6th February. It was encouraging to see so many parents in attendance with a common goal of supporting and guiding their child through the SATs and transition process. A copy of the presentation is available to download here.
A huge thank you to all those who attended the Parents’ Information Evenings earlier on this term. These evenings were designed to communicate key school and curriculum information. They also shared strategies for learning and contained vital updates on E-Safety, to help keep the children at St Werburgh’s safe online. The presentations shared on those evenings can be downloaded using the links at the bottom of this page.
